TRI COUNTY REPORT FOR JULY 28TH, 2020

A man is in custody following a five-hour standoff in Greenville that ended peacefully. Greenville police said the man barricaded himself, his girlfriend and two young children in a home on Church Street. WKBN-TV reports The suspect was taken to Mercer County Jail. He will not be identified at this time, but officials say he has several warrants in Mercer County for various offenses.

Vice President Mike Pence will be campaigning in Pennsylvania this week.  Pence is set to host a “Cops for Trump” rally at the Greensburg Police Department on Thursday.  During his visit he is expected to show the administration’s stance against movements that are trying to defund police departments across the nation.

State Health officials are defending their decision to tighten restrictions to bars and restaurants. Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine says contact tracing data is clear about restaurants, bars and night clubs being places where coronavirus had been spreading, especially among younger populations. Levine says this trend has also been seen throughout the country and noted by the federal government which has recommended that states target these businesses.

State police believe they know more about a serious motorcycle crash on Boyers Road in Marion Township last week.  They say a westbound motorcycle, driven by 21-year-old Nicholas McFadden, was driving too fast for conditions when it slid off the road while trying to negotiate a curve.  McFadden was taken to Grove City Hospital with what is being described as a serious injury.

Beaver County sheriff’s deputies are mourning the death of a four-legged partner in crime fighting.  The sheriff’s department says K-9 Ciro passed away yesterday at his handler’s home.  Ciro served eight years as a Beaver County deputy and won several awards for his work.

State police say they’ve arrested two men connected to a purse theft last month in Center Township.  Marcos Roman and Roman Acevedo-Carrasquillo are accused of following a woman home from a store and taking her purse as she neared her residence.  Roman is in Butler County Prison while Acevedo-Carrasquillo is awaiting extradition in Marion County, Florida.

COVID-19 cases in Pennsylvania are continuing to rise throughout the state. Officials say yesterday saw an increase of 839 new cases, with the state total surpassing 108-thousand. About four new deaths related to the virus were added to the death toll yesterday, which sits at 71-hundred-22. Lawrence County added three new positive COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing its total to 291 cases and 11 deaths.

Health officials in Beaver County are adding six more COVID-19 cases to its overall total.  That’s 74 confirmed or probable coronavirus cases since Friday.  Officials are concerned about the county’s seven-day positivity rate of ten percent.  The Beaver County Times reports that the C-D-C considers the virus under control when that number is less than five percent.
